This bold sencha was grown at the Kinezuka family's natural tea garden in the forest-surrounded Fujieda in South Shizuoka. Fujieda is in the plain of the Ōi River delta, just inland from the Pacific coast, and extends into the mountainous region to the north. The Kinezukas are pioneers of organic tea farming in Japan and produce green and black teas which represent the pinnacle of japanese organic tea

Like all of their senchas, this okuhikari sencha was produced using only first flush leaves. The tea is powerful and dense, with little astringency and very significant umami for an unshaded green. It is creamy, vegetal and savoury - we were reminded of corn, hot broth, carbonara and steamed spinach. After sipping, you are left with a very pleasant sweet white fruit aftertaste, which lingers on the tongue.

Flavour profile: dense, umami, vegetal
