We’re a tea brand, teahouse and shop based in Vienna’s vibrant 8th district - and you can also explore our full selection right here in our online shop.
At rami tea, we source incredible teas from around the world, working directly with small tea gardens and skilled tea makers who share our passion for quality and craftsmanship. From naturally grown loose-leaf teas to vibrant matcha, every tea we offer is carefully selected and full of character.
We focus on natural teas, small-scale production, and want to show you just how fun and inspiring the world of tea can be.
Happy exploring, and we hope to welcome you soon at our teahouse!
Why we do it
Rami started out as a ceramics studio (rami ceramics) and similarly to ceramics, we discovered that tea offers an endless number of variation, both in terms flavours as well as its origins and traditions. We believe tea can be so much more than just a commodity.
We want to show that whole leaf tea is exciting, approachable, and full of life – not something complicated or exclusive. Our goal is to open up the world of specialty tea to more people, without the jargon, and with a deep appreciation for where the tea comes from and how it’s made.
Every tea we source has a story – about the place it grows, the people who produce it, and the careful craft that goes into every leaf. These stories are at the heart of what we do.
Tea is fun. Tea is full of flavour. And it deserves a special place in everyday life.
Our team
Our team is brought together by a shared love for tea, good stories, and creating warm, welcoming spaces. Each of us brings something different - from sourcing and brewing to design and hospitality, but what unites us is our passion for sharing the joy of tea in a way that feels honest, down-to-earth, and inspiring.
Together, we’re building rami tea as a place where curiosity, quality, and connection come first.

Who sources the teas?
It's very important to us to source our teas directly without middlemen. Our tea expert Teresa is the heart behind rami tea’s sourcing. With a deep love for tea and strong connections to small tea gardens around the world, she carefully selects each tea we offer.
Teresa works directly with skilled producers to find unique, high-quality teas that are grown with care and integrity. Her goal is to find teas that not only taste incredible, but also tell a story - of craft, place, and people.
Traceable tea
At rami tea, we believe in full transparency and in sharing as much information about our teas as possible.
We want you to choose a tea with confidence, knowing who grew it and how it was made.
That’s why we source most of our teas directly from the farms themselves. The exception here are some of our pu’er and oolong teas for which we work with renowned tea expert Olivier Schneider, who has close relationships with local producers.
This ensures that our teas are not only exceptional in quality but also grown responsibly - without unnecessary chemicals or practices that harm the environment, biodiversity, or the people who cultivate the leaves.
Unlike much of the tea sold in Europe, which often passes through large companies and blends leaves from multiple farms for uniformity, we celebrate the unique character of each harvest.
We focus on single-origin teas and complete transparency, honoring the seasonality and individuality of every batch. By trading as directly as possible, we reduce transport, packaging, and unnecessary intermediaries, making our teas better for you, the farmers, and the planet.
For every tea, you can see its origin and producer in the product description, so you know exactly where it comes from and who made it.

Use of agricultural chemicals
Only a few small-scale producers hold official European organic certification, mainly because the process is costly and requires annual inspections that many farms simply cannot afford.
Many of our teas, however, do carry local organic certifications in their countries of origin, reflecting the same high standards of natural and responsible cultivation.
With this approach, we strive to source the most natural teas that are made without the use of agricultural chemicals. By working closely with small producers, we can ensure responsible farming practices, even if a European organic label is not present.
This allows us to focus on quality, seasonality, and single-origin transparency, rather than on navigating costly certification processes that often exclude small farms.
Social Responsibility
We care about all the talented people who are involved in producing our tea.
We want the producers to receive a fair price for their tea, while also having good working conditions. That is why traceability is always in focus so that we can know exactly what the producers are paid.
Several of our producers also take on a particularly large social responsibility and we want to name a few:
- Amba Tea Estate in Sri Lanka provide sustainable livelihood opportunities to rural women, support forest-friendly farming practices, and use techniques that minimise waste, energy consumption, and resource use. Five percent of gross profits is shared with workers as a bonus.
- Monkeytail Tea Estate is working on further developing the factory to provide more employment in the village, profit share, and help local farmers develop the skills and knowledge to make their own unique artisan teas.
- Aleš and Sachi Gallas from Nengancha Tea Garden took over a once-neglected tea garden and have revived tea cultivation in this remote corner of Japan. They are now preparing to welcome visitors, creating a new source of income for the local community while sharing the unique beauty and tradition of the region.
Why do we care?
Like many industries, the tea world has its challenges. Much of the tea on the market is mass-produced with little regard for quality or the people who work to harvest it.
At rami tea, we aim to change that, following the path of greater awareness already seen in the coffee and wine industries. Large-scale plantations can also threaten local ecosystems, reducing biodiversity and impacting the environment through chemical pesticides and monoculture practices.
For us, pure, high-quality tea goes hand in hand with sustainability and traceability. In many teas, especially blends or teas mixed with other ingredients, leaves can come from multiple countries or producers, and additional steps in production can obscure the origin. While this makes it easier to create a consistent taste year-round, it often comes at the cost of transparency.
We prioritize knowing exactly where our teas come from. This allows us to support producers who care for their employees and preserve the biodiversity and environment of their farms. By cutting out unnecessary intermediaries, we ensure fair prices for the producers and the most accurate, detailed information about the tea and its origins.
At rami tea, we believe that traceability and sustainability are essential to enjoying tea—not just for the taste, but for the story in every cup. Knowing the origin and production process adds depth and meaning to each sip, making tea a richer, more responsible experience for everyone involved.
