This premium tea is an unsmoked variation of the traditional Lapsang Souchong, also known as Zhengshan Xiaozhong. It comes from the same tea-producing village in the Tongmu Nature Reserve in Fujian, China, produced by the same family as our traditional Lapsang Souchong.
The Zhang family have upheld the art of tea production for over five generations and train new family members, both sons and daughters alike, in the tea making process. This tea retains the family’s commitment to quality and tradition, showcasing a newer production method that omits the pine-smoking. This allows the natural characteristics of the tea leaves from this sought after natural environment to shine through.
The result is an elegant brew that is thick and sweet, showcasing notes of red berries, minerals and spices. The finish is smooth and long lasting, the astringency very subtle and well balanced.
