Darjeeling first flush teas are the first teas produced after winter. They are very highly sought after for their lively, fresh and sparkling character and their light floral aromas. First flushes are not as heavily oxidised as normal black teas to allow them to fully express their potential.

This year, we have selected this First Flush from the Avongrove Tea Estate, located in the Rangbhang Valley - it is spread across two hillsides thickly populated with tea bushes on the crests and thick forest in the valleys and overlooks the meandering Balasun River.

The 150 year old Avongrove Estate is well know for it's excellent teas, with teams of fifteen plucking different sections of the estate, taking care to ensure that the leaves are just the right size for the finest quality. The processing factory is constantly monitored by veteran tea-makers, continuously tasting and making adjustments almost automatically to create the competition-winning teas that Avongrove is famous for.

This rare,  Euphoria First Flush is the crowning jewel of the Avongrove collection. The leaves for this tea grew at 670m above sea level and, like all other teas at Avongrove, it was produced without the use of chemical pesticides or fertilisers. The estate's skilled artisans gently hand-pluck the youngest, most tender leaves and buds, which are then barely oxidised to create this crisp, sparkling tea.

First flushes are often referred to as the champagne of the tea world, and this year's Euphoria has certainly earned its title.
