Grown in Gokase Japan, a rare tea with a clear, soft and balanced profile. Naturally sweet and long lasting.
This single cultivar Kamairicha is crafted from the Takachiho cultivar, which was elaborated specifically for the production of Kamairicha.
The leaves for this elegant, fresh and warming tea grow on the mountainous tea fields of Gokase, approximately 600 meters above sea level. The Miyazaki Farm is an incredible place surrounded by stunning nature and wonderful people. Wandering their tea fields leaves you in awe of their work, love for tea and the land which they have worked without pesticide use since decades.
Unlike the typical steaming process used for Senchas, Kamairicha is produced by heating the leaves in a pan. While this method is common in Chinese green tea production, it has become rare in Japan. The Japanese technique results in a unique comma-shaped leaf. Kamairicha is a traditional tea that has become rare to find because it is not produced often anymore. Originating from Southern Japan, Miyazaki prefecture is renowned as the premier region for this tea variety. It offers a delightful departure from the familiar Sencha, with a pleasant aroma reminiscent of roasted chestnuts. This Kamairicha is very pleasant and interesting, it withstands many steepings.
The flavour profile is warm and buttery sweet with hints of roasted chestnuts and fresh umami. This is a softly fresh, elegant and long lasting tea, very pleasant to drink.
