toasted nuts - sun-warmed grass - red bean
A rare pan-fired green tea from southern Japan. With a chestnut-reminiscent smoothness, this powdered kamairicha pairs beautifully with milk while retaining its freshness.
We’ve chosen to include machine-milled kamairicha in our selection for its versatility and warmth. If you love matcha but are curious to explore a different flavour profile, this is a rewarding place to start. And if you enjoy green tea and are looking for new culinary possibilities – from baking and cooking to lattes – this powder opens the door.
Kamairicha is a rare Japanese green tea grown on Kyushu. Sourced from the Miyazaki family farm, the leaves are cultivated without pesticides or chemical fertilizers and pan-fired using a traditional method unique within Japan. They are then further processed until this powdered form on the farm. Milling the tea into powder allows the full character and natural benefits of the leaf to be enjoyed in a more concentrated form.
Unlike tencha (and matcha), kamairicha is not shaded before harvest, resulting in a higher catechin content. These catechins bring gentle astringency and structure, which in this tea are beautifully balanced by nutty sweetness — especially when prepared with milk.
